Being from Washington, D.C. automatically raises the stakes for any emcee. In a city that is eager for its spot on the hip-hop map, now more than ever, the eyes of the nation’s capital are on LIKEBLOOD ENTERTAINMENT. With their debut EP, CAME FROM NOTHIN’, Likeblood takes their listeners on a gritty, personal journey through the rarely seen streets of the original murder capital. Likeblood will release the highly-anticipated debut EP at their OFFICIAL “CAME FROM NOTHIN'” EP RELEASE PARTY, which will feature live performances by Likeblood and recording artist LIL SCRAPPY (G’s Up/BME/Reprise Records), on June 16, 2007 at Club Envy.
Likeblood’s first introduction to the public eye was in 2006 on the promotional tour for the feature film, JAZZ IN THE DIAMOND DISTRICT, which is slated for release in late 2007. Likeblood acts in the film and is also heavily involved in the score and on the soundtrack. Upon completion of principal photography for the film, Likeblood (ERIC “YUNG E” MANN, 24; JOSHUA “MOODY STREETZ” MOODY, 21; ANDRE “DRE STRONG” STRONG, 24) turned their focus to the EP, pledging to make an album that would take the industry by storm. With this release they are not only striving to prove that their talent is industry-worthy, but they are also looking to establish themselves as a genuine voice for the streets of D.C. in the global hip-hop community. “We don’t just want to claim D.C. cause we’re from here, but then sound like everyone else,” says Yung E, co-founder of the group. “D.C. is different from other cities and I think we show that in our music. We truly representin’ this city and people are realizing that, it’s time for the world to see what D.C. is really about.”
The release includes a collaboration with one of the biggest talents in the city, Jive recording artist, RAHEEM DEVAUGHN, who is featured on the hood anthem, “Gettin’ By”. The EP also features a collaboration with up-and-coming R&B singer, Chris, who is featured on the strictly-for-the-ladies, summer-time banger, “Whateva U Like.” The album opens with “Work 4 Me,” a dynamic, bass-thumper that appeals to both the club circuit and the streets. This locally produced hit is the first single to be released from the EP. Likeblood continues to showcase their lyrical versatility with songs that address everything from their childhood struggles (“It Is What It Is”) to the psychology of celebrity amidst the local “crabs in a barrel” mentality (“Anything”).
Likeblood has also planned a regional tour to promote the EP and prove their worth not only as lyricists, but also as performers. Details on the tour, which will kick-off this summer, are available at www.likeblood.com.
